Both Aloha Airlines and American Trans Air have ceased operations and have shut down. Unfortunately, all mileage credits and points no longer have any redemption value nor can they be traded into any other program or exchanged for any other services or products.

Air Tran Airways has come out with a new provision for extending the life of earned points. Members may now buy an extra one year at a time for a fee for each point; and, extra points, if needed to obtain an award may also be purchased. Elite members now get a two year life for their points as opposed to one year for regular members. Check with the airline's Frequent Flyer program for more details.

Jet Blue has entered into an agreement with American Express to extend the life of their points. Check the airline's website for details.
Sold Points Reward Network, associated with T.&.I. Friday's, as of April 1, 2008 is a redemption only program. The company states that earned points will never expire and can still be exchanged for awards until exhausted. Unfortunately, they have lost their founding members which were Radisson Hotels and Country Inns and Suites By Carlson, Park Plaza and Park Inn; which means redemptions are no longer available at these hotels. There are few options for redemption now, but you can enjoy free appetizers, meals and deserts at Friday's. Details are on the website at 6oldPoints.com.

Keep in mind that your Frequent Flyer points have become more valuable due to the higher airfares that have been occuring as a result of fuel prices. So, you are in a sense avoiding "inflation" by using points earned at a lower cost in the past. However, remember one of the major points of the book is that there are many ways to earn mileage points due to your regular economic activity: buying food, products, even gas, on your mileage affiliated credit cards. Though you may be paying more for these products you are still receiving great value when you redeem your points for a "free" trip.
